Akbar Khan, Level 3 Construction Management Apprentice on placement with Wates Construction has completed his TrAC apprenticeship and starts a new position with the UK-wide contractor as a student planner.
Akbar applied to the TrAC Shared Apprenticeship Scheme after enrolling on the full-time Level 3 Construction course at Bedford College. Prior to that whilst studying for his A-Levels he took some time out to take part in a “Get Into” programme with The Prince’s Trust and Bedford College . The group worked on a timber frame restoration project on a historical barn at Kings Hill Farm, part of the Shuttleworth College site which really inspired him. At his interview with TrAC and Wates Construction, Akbar really impressed the panel with his presentation skills, beating off stiff competition from other candidates.
Following the success of his placement with Wates Construction and a very positive experience completing his Level 3 apprenticeship at Bedford College, Wates offered the 21 year old a permanent position in a newly created role as a Student Planner which he started on the 3rd July 2017. Akbar said “Doing an apprenticeship has given me an opportunity to prove what I’m capable of, not just to Wates but also to myself. TrAC supported me throughout my apprenticeship with a dedicated apprentice manager who was on hand to help me from day 1. I would really recommend TrAC and the apprenticeship route to anyone interested in working in the construction industry. I’ve got a great career ahead of me and I’m looking forward to getting on with it.”
